High-performance flocculants for faster solids separation, clearer recycled water and efficient sludge handling in mining and mineral-processing operations.

Fast, Reliable Solid-Liquid Separation
Mining mud and process slurry can contain very fine suspended particles that settle slowly and consume valuable water. KCE Group’s polymer solutions support particle bridging and formation of strong, fast-settling flocs. With appropriate product selection and operating conditions, they can help improve thickener performance, overflow clarity and underflow concentration for easier dewatering or handling.
Polymer selection and results depend on mineralogy, particle size, slurry solids, water chemistry, pH, equipment and operating conditions. Laboratory jar tests and controlled plant trials are recommended before full-scale application.
Typical Applications
| Application | Treatment objective | Potential operational benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Stone crusher and sand washing | Capture fine clay, silt and mineral particles | Clearer recycle water and faster pond settling |
| Ore and mineral washing | Separate suspended fines from process water | Improved water recovery and overflow clarity |
| Tailings thickeners | Accelerate floc formation and compaction | Support stable thickener operation and denser underflow |
| Coal and mineral slurry | Improve clarification and sludge handling | Reduced solids carryover and improved dewatering |
| Quarry and aggregate plants | Control turbidity in wash-water circuits | Support lower fresh-water demand and settling-pond management |
Polymer Selection
- Anionic polymers: Often considered for mineral, clay, sand and metal-ore suspensions.
- Cationic polymers: May be suitable where negatively charged organic solids or certain sludge streams are dominant.
- Non-ionic polymers: May be evaluated for low-charge or challenging process streams.
- Liquid or powder grades: Selected according to plant equipment, preparation time, storage and dosing control.
The most suitable grade should be confirmed through representative sample testing rather than polymer charge alone.
Application Guidance
- Prepare a uniform polymer solution using clean water and controlled mixing; avoid excessive shear.
- Allow adequate hydration or aging time before dosing, particularly for powder polymers.
- Introduce the solution where rapid initial dispersion is followed by gentle floc growth.
- Optimize dosage against settling speed, overflow clarity, floc strength and underflow density.
- Confirm operating settings through jar testing and a controlled plant trial.
